Known for restaurants White Rabbit, “Shechtel“ and “Clouds“ the Bureau Archpoint presented its new project of public space.
Restaurant Tokyo Sushi is located at ul. Bolshaya Nikitskaya, 22/2, in the apartment house of the beginning of the XX century. Before the repair, the room was occupied by a tissue store. During the reconstruction, plastic panels were removed, with which virtually all surfaces were sheathed. Due to this, the ceilings slightly increased, the ancient vaults were exposed and air appeared in the space. The most difficult moment in creating the interior was working with the ceilings: in order not to make them lower, the architects had to pay special attention to the placement of the ventilation system.
Although Tokyo Sushi is a network, the customer wanted this restaurant to look premium and representative. The architects immediately offered to give up explicit references to Japan and create a more concise and simple interior. There are no usual for Asian institutions partitions of wooden lattices and rice paper, paintings with images of carp and girls in a kimono. There is not even a single hieroglyph. The bet is made on restraint and minimalism: brick, concrete, wood and a lot of white. To the interior did not seem boring, it was revived by lighting and light installations on the walls. Due to this, in the evening, space is transformed into a cozy, more chambered place, something more than just a Japanese restaurant, where they run to eat sushi.
Design took about two months, and the very embodiment of the idea – three months. The room for the restaurant is small – only 150 m², and the concept has developed quickly. Most of the time was spent on making furniture and interior items. All tables, fixtures and installations are made to order according to the sketches of the designers of the studio. And armchairs and sofas are bought from the brand Jess Design, whose official representative is the Archpoint office.
On April 15, the interior of the restaurant received the silver award of the annual international award A ‘Design Award & Competition.
