There are places in Crimea, about which not even all Crimeans know, they are not in the tourist routes. Today we have prepared a review of the impressive natural and historical monuments, as well as the territories on which excursions are never conducted.
1. Koyash Salt Lake

One of the most striking places in the Crimea is the Koyash Salt Lake, located on the Kerch Peninsula (Leninsky district). It was formed in a natural way. Its water, salt and mud have medicinal properties.

The length of the coastline of Lake Kojash is ten kilometers. The length of the lake itself is almost four kilometers, and the width is from 1.2 to 2.81 kilometers. It grows different types of algae, live microorganisms, and also here you can often observe the flowering of water.

2. Wild tulips of the Crimea

On the same Kerch peninsula one can find another beautiful phenomenon – the flowering of wild tulips right on the sea coast. They bear the name of Schrenk’s tulips and are included in the lists of the Red Book of Russia. The period of their flowering falls on the whole of April and May, and already in June the plants bear fruit.

3. Crimean Provence

Between Simferopol and Sevastopol is the village of Turgenevka. Local call its neighborhood “Crimean Provence”. From June to July, the fields near the settlement are painted in purple hues – lavender fields are in blossom. In addition to the fact that this is a spectacular enough spectacle, the flavors here are the most pleasant.

4. Poppy paradise
Poppy fields are one of the wonders of the Crimea. You can meet them not only in the steppes, but also at the foot of the mountains. Most often large fields are found in the vicinity of Simferopol, Sevastopol, Bakhchisarai, Evpatoria and Kazantip.

5. The Marble Cave
Marble Cave is one of the five most beautiful caves in the world, according to modern cavers. It is located on the mountain range Chatyr-Dag (the lower plateau) and has a very narrow entrance. To descend into it you need to use a special staircase, having previously taken a jacket with you, since the temperature inside does not rise above eight degrees of heat.
The depth of the cave is 60 meters. Routes that are equipped for excursions have a length of 1.5 kilometers.

6. Chersonese of Taurida
Chersonese is famous for its centuries-old history and scale. Presumably, it was founded by the Greeks in 422-421 BC. Its name translates as “peninsula”. Chersonese is indeed washed by waters from several sides. And Tavrichesky nicknamed him because of the Taurians who lived on these lands – a militant tribe.

7. Wild azure beaches of Crimea
Not all Crimeans know about such places. On the coasts of the Black and Azov Seas there are a number of wild beaches, which even in the hottest season are empty. Water and sand are much cleaner here than in resort towns. You can find such places along the way to Tarhankut, near Kerch and Feodosia, on Kazantip Bay.

While staying on the wild beaches of the Crimea, they are washed by azure waters, the images from the advertisement of the chocolate bar “Bounty” come to mind, only the palm trees are not enough.

8. Picturesque Balaclava Gulfs
Until 1957, Balaklava was an independent city, followed by a whole region, which includes 28 settlements, as well as many capes, bays and scenic spots. Here is the largest on the peninsula Chernorechenskoe reservoir (more than 64 million cubic meters of water). In addition, the Balaklava region is famous for its beautiful rocky landscapes.

9. Eski-Kermen – cave city
One of the most impressive places in the Crimea is the cave city of Eski-Kermen, which is located 14 kilometers from Bakhchisaray. It was founded in the distant 6th century AD Byzantines. They have made in the rocks more than 350 caves, among which there is a large water storage and several temples.

The city existed eight centuries, until it was destroyed by the troops of the Golden Horde, despite the fact that it was limited to thirty meters high with steep cliffs.

From here you can see incredible views of the Bakhchisaray Historical and Cultural Reserve. In nearby forests, you can easily find a hazel and pick nuts.

10. Kizil-Koba – the largest cave in the Crimea
Kizil-Koba is translated from the Crimean-Tatar, like a red cave. It is the largest in the Crimea. To date, speleologists have examined 64,000 square meters of its area (25 kilometers, 500 meters are sightseeing).

It has six floors of labyrinths, many waterfalls, and also the underground river Kizilkobinka flows, you can see and hear that on the excursion route.
Here is one of the largest stalactites in Europe. Its age reaches 8000 years, and the length is 8 meters.
The Red Cave is surrounded by a generally accessible natural complex, the area of which is 33 hectares. Picturesque landscapes and nice clean air are other attractions of this place.
